FAQ
What is trauma-informed practice?
Trauma-informed practice recognizes that a wide range of distressing or disturbing events, real or perceived, impacts a person’s emotional, behavioral, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. It recognizes that the responses to these events are unique and that some are easier to identify than others.
What can I expect from trauma-informed therapy?
During trauma-informed therapy, you can expect to address the underlying reasons for depression and anxiety or other impacts of life events. You will learn more about what you are experiencing, the functioning of your current coping mechanisms, as well as healthier ways to cope.
I do not want to relive my trauma. Do I have to give a trauma narrative?
No, each session is tailored to your needs. Giving a trauma narrative is not a requirement for trauma-informed therapy. However, parts of your trauma history may be revisited to help you understand the functioning of your current coping mechanisms.
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is focusing on being aware of the present moment, intentionally and nonjudgmentally accepting your feelings and thoughts.
What isn’t mindfulness?
Mindfulness isn’t a specific religious or spiritual system, always about feeling good, clearing your mind, spacing out or escaping, nor changing challenging thoughts or feelings.
My religious beliefs don’t align with meditating. How can I practice mindfulness?
While mindfulness is often associated with meditation, there are many ways to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is about being intentional. Some mindfulness techniques include breathing exercises, imagery, and journaling while focusing on what you are doing and how it makes you feel.
Is therapy right for me?
Anyone seeking a nonjudgmental place to voice their thoughts and feelings can benefit from therapy. You must consult with your future therapist to determine if the therapist may be the right fit for you and your needs.
Do you offer in-person therapy or teletherapy?
We currently offer both in person and teletherapy sessions.
How much is a session?
Session fees depend on the service you are seeking. Sessions are private pay and begin at $125. Payments are due the day and time of your scheduled session.
Why aren’t insurance payments accepted?
We are out-of-network providers, which means we do not have a contract with any insurance companies. While we do not directly bill your insurance, we can provide you with a superbill that you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
I can’t afford the session rate. What can I do?
Please feel free to reach out and inquire about available payment options. We can also refer you to therapist who may be able to accommodate your financial situation.
Should I pay out of pocket or use my insurance?
This depends on your preference and financial situation. Insurance companies mandate a diagnosis, oversee your health records, and may seek access to your information while in therapy. They also may limit your coverage to a set number of therapy sessions per year, regardless of what you’re going through. Private pay offers a higher level of confidentiality. It also allows you and your therapist to make treatment decisions and payment arrangements without outside interference.
What forms of payment are accepted?
Payments from all major debit and credit cards are accepted. Other payment methods may be accommodated upon request.
What can I expect during my first session?
During your first session, you and your therapist will begin building a therapeutic alliance, which includes discussing the information in your intake form, policies, and the best therapy plan for you.
